A few tips for the install These lamps are great because they don’t take up much space and they heat up instantly. You can usually swap out your old resistive heaters for these without a headache. But here is the catch: high-purity quartz is more brittle than the doped glass you might be used to. **Whatever you do, don’t touch the tubes with your bare hands.**The oils from your skin create hot spots, and that’s the fastest way to kill a tube. Grab some lint-free gloves and some isopropyl alcohol for cleaning. Also, make sure your power supply is stable. If you’ve got voltage ripples, your filament is going to burn out a lot faster than it should.
