Even a tiny bit of over-voltage will eat through your filament life way faster than it should. The honest trade-offs Nothing is perfect. Those containment coatings are great for safety, but they do block a little bit of the IR transmission. You might notice a 5-10% drop in raw heat compared to a bare tube. It’s an easy fix, though. Just tweak your PID settings or give it a little more dwell time. One last thing—set a reminder to inspect your seals every 500 hours. If your glovebox atmosphere leaks or gets dirty, the quartz can actually react and etch. That makes the tube brittle. Keep the environment clean, and your heaters will keep humming along.
