Ozone-free IR lamps are great because they cut out that 185nm wavelength—meaning you don’t have to deal with the smell or the risks of ozone. But while the light output is the star of the show, the real unsung hero is the electrical housing. If the insulation isn’t right, your equipment is just a ticking time bomb for a short circuit.
We Test Every Single Tube. No Exceptions.
Some shops just grab a few samples from a batch and call it a day. We don’t do that. Every single tube we make goes through a high-voltage withstand test and an insulation resistance check before it even thinks about leaving the floor. We hit these lamps with a voltage way higher than what you’ll actually use. Why? Because we want to find the breaking point here, not in your facility. If there’s a tiny, microscopic crack in the quartz or a speck of dust on the electrode, the lamp fails. It’s that simple. It’s a pain for us, but it saves you from the nightmare of an “arc-over.” There is nothing worse than one bad lamp in a big array tripping your entire control cabinet or, in the worst-case scenario, welding a connector straight to the frame.
The Heat Factor
High-wattage IR lamps live in a brutal environment. They get incredibly hot. As that tube heats up, materials expand and shift. If the insulation isn’t rock solid from the start, you’ll start leaking current as the lamp cycles through those temperature swings. By sticking to strict standards at the factory, we make sure your footprint stays stable. You won’t have to worry about your R7s or Sk15 connectors turning into charcoal because of leakage currents.
A Few Things to Keep in Mind
Testing catches the duds, but you still have to account for physics. Those ozone-free coatings can change how the tube emits heat. You get the clean air and the safety, but you’ll want to double-check your PID settings. The heat-up rate might be a little different than what you’re used to. And a pro tip: if you’re pushing these lamps to their absolute limit, make sure your cooling fans are up to the task. You don’t want your sockets overheating just because the lamp is doing its job too well.
